Timaru set for amateur matched boxing tournament

Boxers of all ages will take to the ring within the Timaru Novice Matched Match on Saturday.

The match, at Celtic Sports activities Corridor, will embody 21 bouts – 12 South Island Golden Gloves finals and 9 South Island contests.

Starting from 10-year-olds to senior veterans, the boxers are from throughout the South Island, Timaru Boxing Membership coach Liam Corridor mentioned.

“There are boxers proper from the age of 10 who shall be in motion tomorrow [on Saturday],” Corridor mentioned.

“We’ve the little cadets, mid-age cadets and the youth elite class.

“There shall be three rounds with a variation within the timing of the rounds for every class. The boxers shall be from varied locations throughout South Island proper from Gore to Nelson.”

With the preliminary and elimination rounds of the South Island Golden Gloves held in Christchurch throughout Queen’s Birthday Weekend, the ultimate will happen in Timaru.

“Each boxer has one purpose and that’s to win the bout,’’ Drake mentioned.

Corridor added the ladies’s bout was cancelled because the boxers received’t make it to Timaru on Saturday.

Co-coach Hayden Briggs mentioned the boxing occasion is held yearly.
