Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis Faces Fresh Legal Troubles: New Arrest Warrant Issued

In a turn of events that continues to cast a shadow over his once-illustrious career, former three-division world champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis finds himself entangled in yet another legal web. A Baltimore Circuit judge issued a new arrest warrant for the boxer on February 2, 2026, citing a violation of his probation terms. This latest development comes hot on the heels of his arrest in Miami just a week prior, on charges related to a domestic violence incident.

The newest warrant, issued by Circuit Judge Althea M. Handy, stems from a 2020 hit-and-run case in Baltimore for which Davis was serving a three-year probation period. The boxer’s legal woes have been mounting, with his recent arrest in Miami on January 28, 2026, involving charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. These charges relate to an October 2025 incident involving his ex-girlfriend.

Davis was released from a Miami jail after posting an $8,500 bond, but the subsequent Baltimore warrant for probation violation means he remains in active legal jeopardy. His attorney, Hunter Pruette, has filed a motion to quash the arrest warrant, requesting that the court issue a summons instead. This would allow Davis to address the Maryland matter without immediate detention.

The legal troubles have had a significant impact on Davis’s boxing career. The WBA has designated him as ‘Champion in Recess’ due to his inability to defend his lightweight title amidst these legal issues. These problems also forced the cancellation of his high-profile November 2025 fight against Jake Paul, who ultimately fought Anthony Joshua instead.

Davis’s legal entanglements began with a November 2020 car accident in Baltimore that injured four people. In 2023, he was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest, three years of probation, and 200 hours of community service. He later served 44 days in jail for violating house arrest conditions. The October 2025 incident, which led to his recent arrest, is not the first time Davis has had a run-in with the law.

The boxer’s life has seemingly unraveled since police confirmed they had obtained video footage supporting the woman’s claim. Davis, who had already been at odds with the boxing community for accepting a fight with Paul, has received little sympathy from his fan base. With his legal battles set to dominate much of his 2026, the future of his boxing career remains firmly in question.
