In a recent statement, Gilberto Ramirez expressed his belief that David Benavidez would be a more formidable opponent at cruiserweight than Jai Opetaia. This assertion has sparked discussions within the boxing community, as both Benavidez and Opetaia are highly regarded in their respective weight classes.

Opetaia, the current IBF cruiserweight champion, is set to face American Brandon Glanton in the first-ever Zuffa Boxing cruiserweight title fight. This highly anticipated bout will headline the Zuffa Boxing 04 event on March 8 in Las Vegas. Opetaia’s impressive record stands at 29-0, with his last victory coming in December against Huseyin Cinkara, whom he knocked out in the eighth round. This win marked Opetaia’s fourth successful defense of his IBF belt.

Meanwhile, David Benavidez has been making waves in the boxing world with his exceptional performances. His potential move to the cruiserweight division has piqued the interest of many, including Ramirez, who sees Benavidez as a significant challenge. Benavidez’s power, speed, and technical skills make him a formidable opponent for anyone in the division.

In other cruiserweight news, there is speculation about a possible unification bout between Jai Opetaia and Noel Mikaelian, with the backing of WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman. Mikaelian, the current WBC belt-holder, faced off with Opetaia at the first Zuffa Boxing event, adding fuel to the fire for a potential unification match. If Agit Kabayel retains his WBC interim title belt, he will eventually become the mandatory challenger for full world champion Oleksandr Usyk. However, Usyk will first be permitted to make a voluntary defense of his WBC title, which he holds along with the IBF and WBA belts.

In the super welterweight division, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. are reportedly closing in on an official fight agreement. Despite previous setbacks and negotiations seemingly going nowhere, the two stars are now on the verge of finalizing a deal. This matchup is highly anticipated, as both Ennis and Ortiz are considered among the best in the super welterweight division. A victory for either fighter would position them as one of the biggest stars in the sport by the end of the year.

The boxing world is abuzz with these potential matchups, and fans are eagerly awaiting official announcements. The cruiserweight and super welterweight divisions are heating up, promising exciting fights and unforgettable moments in the ring.
