As the summer sun begins to warm the Emerald Isle, one Dublin-born boxer is heating up the ring with his ambitions. Cian Doyle, the Crumlin BC alumnus, is not planning a leisurely summer vacation. Instead, he’s setting his sights on a series of all-Irish showdowns that promise to set the boxing world ablaze.
Doyle, who triumphantly returned to the ring last Saturday under the bright lights of a JB Promotions event, is eager to keep the momentum going. After a two-year hiatus, the Dubliner is not interested in waiting around. He’s ready to step back into the National Stadium on April 4th for another bout, aiming to shake off any remaining rust from his extended break.
“I’ll likely have one more domestic fight, and then, with any luck, I’ll push forward,” Doyle shared in a recent interview. His eyes are set on the prize of all-Irish matchups, believing these are the fights that truly test a boxer’s mettle and captivate the fans. “I don’t want to be fighting journeymen—I want the good all-Irish dust-ups. They’re the ones fans remember, and they’re the ones that level you up,” he asserted.
While road warriors like his last weekend’s opponent, Stefan Nicolae, serve their purpose, Doyle is grateful for the four rounds that helped him knock off some rust. “It’s good to be back,” he said. “It was beneficial to get the rounds in. He’s been around the block; he knows his way around the ring. There’s plenty to work on, but I was happy enough with how I boxed and glad to get the rust off.”
Doyle is his own harshest critic, admitting there’s much work to be done. “I haven’t watched the fight back yet; it’s still fresh. But yeah, I think I’m ready for domestic fights—and they’re the fights I want,” he stated. His desire for all-Irish matchups isn’t just about the thrill; it’s about growth. Doyle firmly believes that competitive domestic rivalries offer the steepest learning curve and the fastest route up the boxing ladder.
Despite his lofty goals, Doyle remains grounded after such a long absence from the sport. “You just take it fight by fight,” he said. “Don’t overlook anything or look too far ahead. One step at a time, and we’ll see what happens. But I’m definitely looking for domestic fights.”
Reflecting on his journey, Doyle revealed, “I’ve been training hard for the last two, two-and-a-half years. I broke my hand and had to get surgery, which set me back a bit. But it’s good to get the rounds in tonight—onwards and upwards.”
With his sights set on the summer and beyond, Cian Doyle is poised to bring the heat to the Irish boxing scene, one domestic dust-up at a time.
