In the world of boxing, trash talk is as much a part of the sport as the fights themselves. Recently, Shakur Stevenson and Ryan Garcia have been engaged in a war of words that has fans buzzing about a potential showdown at 144 pounds.

Ryan Garcia is set to challenge Mario Barrios for his WBC welterweight title on February 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Despite the high stakes of his upcoming fight, Garcia has been vocal about his desire to face Shakur Stevenson. Stevenson, never one to back down from a challenge, responded to Garcia’s comments during an appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show.

Stevenson took to his social media to address Garcia’s challenge, stating, “144 Ryan let’s do it.. I’ll be at your fight now scrub! Vada will be involved so don’t run from that.” When asked by Smith how he would beat Garcia, Stevenson didn’t hold back: “I think he’s very overrated. If a guy loses to Rolly that way… The way that I saw him lose to Rolly. All Rolly did was take away his left hook. That means clearly that’s all he got. He better sharpen up his weapons before he gets in the ring with me.”

The question on everyone’s mind is what’s next for Shakur Stevenson? After being stripped of his WBC lightweight title, it seems the Newark native is looking to make a splash at super lightweight or even move up further in weight. In addition to the potential bout with Garcia, Stevenson has also called out Conor Benn.

Following his win over Lopez, Stevenson wasted no time in calling out Benn: “There’s a fighter in here right now, and he motivated me too. Where’s Conor Benn? Hey Conor Benn, we can get it banging, boy. We can get it banging! I want that same rehydration clause that you put on (Chris) Eubank Jr., and I want a fight.”

Benn, never one to shy away from a challenge, was quick to respond: “You’re too small for me. You’re tiny, you’re tiny. You can’t punch. You can’t keep me off of you. I’ll rough you up.” An undeterred Stevenson shot back: “Sign the contract. Let’s make it happen. Eddie (Hearn), I want him, he’s food.”

As the boxing world waits with bated breath, one thing is certain: Shakur Stevenson is ready for whatever comes next. Whether it’s a showdown with Ryan Garcia or a bout with Conor Benn, Stevenson is poised to make his mark on the sport.
