Tyson Fury Cautions Deontay Wilder Against Facing Moses Itauma

In a recent development that has sent ripples through the heavyweight division, Tyson Fury has advised Deontay Wilder to steer clear of the rising star Moses Itauma. Fury, known for his candid opinions, has already ruled out a potential bout with the 21-year-old Itauma, despite Wilder’s openness to facing the undefeated British prospect. This comes in the wake of Wilder’s split decision victory over Derek Chisora, where he expressed his willingness to take on new challenges.

Itauma’s impressive knockout of Jermaine Franklin in Manchester last month has caught the attention of many in the boxing world, including Wilder. “Why not? I’m not dodging anyone,” the 40-year-old Wilder stated in his post-fight press conference. “I’m a veteran in the game and I’m looking to fight any and all, especially if the fans want to see it, let’s see.”

Fury, who is set to make his comeback against Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, has a history with Wilder, having shared the ring with him on three occasions. Fury emerged victorious in two of those bouts, with their first meeting ending in a controversial draw. Drawing from his experience sparring with Itauma, Fury believes that Wilder would be no match for the young talent.

“I think it’s for the wrong reasons,” Fury told Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. “They’ve already had 40-50 million, they’ve spent that. What’s another two, three million to you? Pointless to get embarrassed by a young kid in front of the world and you’re only going to spend it anyway.”

Fury’s return to the ring follows his second straight defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, which had initially prompted him to retire. However, his announcement of a comeback in January has set the stage for a potential showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year. Victory over Makhmudov will be crucial for Fury to stay on course for this highly anticipated bout.

In related news, Fury has urged Anthony Joshua to focus on their potential fight and not be distracted by a bout with Wilder, whom he described as “a shell of himself.” Fury’s father, John Fury, has also been vocal about his son’s career, expressing his desire for Tyson to retire six years ago. Despite the criticism, Fury remains focused on his upcoming fight and the possibility of a blockbuster showdown with Joshua.

As the heavyweight division continues to evolve, the potential matchups and rivalries promise to keep fans on the edge of their seats. With Fury’s return and Wilder’s openness to new challenges, the stage is set for an exciting chapter in heavyweight boxing.
