In a spectacular return to the ring, Tyson Fury, the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King,’ showcased his prowess and determination at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, securing a decisive points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov. This triumphant comeback has reignited talks of a potential showdown with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua.

Fury, with a record of 35-2-1 and 24 KOs, last graced the ring in December 2024, where he suffered a clear decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed title. This loss followed an earlier defeat to the Ukrainian seven months prior. For his comeback, Fury chose Makhmudov, a formidable Russian opponent with a record of 21-3 and 19 KOs, who had recently secured a grueling points win over Dave Allen in October of the previous year.

The fight began with Makhmudov showing promise, landing early shots in the first round. However, Fury quickly took control, utilizing his signature uppercut in the second round. By the third round, Makhmudov appeared fatigued as Fury relentlessly targeted his body. Fury’s strategic use of body shots and jabs proved highly effective, with a notable uppercut landing in the sixth round, followed by a barrage of jabs.

Makhmudov briefly rallied in the seventh round, but a left hook from Fury in the eighth round wobbled him, signaling the beginning of the end. The championship rounds saw Fury’s dominance continue, with stiff jabs and a powerful body shot in the penultimate round further weakening Makhmudov. The Russian resorted to holding, but Fury’s relentless pressure ensured a clear victory by the final bell.

The judges’ scores of 120-108, 120-108, and 119-109 reflected Fury’s overwhelming performance. In his post-fight interview, Fury wasted no time in calling out Anthony Joshua, who was present at ringside, setting the stage for a potential battle of Britain.

In the undercard, Conor Benn made his promotional debut following his split with Matchroom. Benn faced a tough challenge in the form of former two-time world champion Regis Prograis. Despite Prograis’ experience, Benn controlled the action and secured a ten-round points win with scores of 98-92 across the board. This victory marked a significant step in Benn’s career as he looks to establish himself in the welterweight division.

Additionally, Richard Riakporhe captured the British heavyweight title with a fifth-round stoppage win over Jeamie TKV. Riakporhe’s relentless pressure and powerful shots forced the referee to intervene, securing his victory. Meanwhile, Frazer Clarke’s bid to revive his career suffered a setback as he lost via majority decision over ten rounds to Justis Huni.

Fury’s impressive performance and subsequent call-out of Joshua have set the boxing world abuzz with anticipation. As both fighters continue their careers, the possibility of a Fury vs. Joshua showdown looms large, promising an exciting future for British heavyweight boxing.
