In a stunning declaration, Kristian Prenga, the upcoming opponent of Anthony Joshua, has pledged to disrupt Joshua’s highly anticipated bout with Tyson Fury. The announcement of Joshua’s return to the ring on July 25 in Riyadh against Prenga came hot on the heels of Turki Alalshikh’s revelation that both Joshua and Fury had inked a deal to face each other.
Prenga, a formidable Albanian fighter with an impressive record of 20 wins, all by knockout, is set to be Joshua’s first challenger since his decisive sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul last December. At 35 years old, Prenga is confident that Joshua has made a grave error in choosing him as an opponent.
“Anthony Joshua is undoubtedly a great fighter, but he has made a terrible miscalculation in selecting me as his opponent,” Prenga stated. “This fight has the potential to change the trajectory of both our lives. I am well aware of their grand plans following this match, and I am pleased that they are underestimating me. I intend to derail their plans and shock the world this July in Saudi Arabia.”
Joshua’s journey to this point has not been without its challenges. Merely 10 days after his triumph over Paul, Joshua was involved in a fatal car crash that resulted in minor injuries for him but tragically claimed the lives of two of his close friends. Despite this setback, the two-time heavyweight world champion has shown remarkable resilience, returning to his training camp in Spain alongside former rival Oleksandr Usyk.
Meanwhile, Tyson Fury, who recently emerged from retirement with a unanimous decision victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this month, has been vocal about his desire to face Joshua. Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, has indicated that Fury might consider another fight before the much-anticipated showdown with Joshua.
“We’re ready to go,” Brown stated on Instagram. “Tyson was out of the ring for two years, just jumped back in. We probably want another fight before the AJ fight. A proper warm-up fight and then we’re all ready to go. We’ve signed. We’re ready to rock and roll.”
The confirmation of the Joshua vs. Fury bout was made by Alalshikh in a post on X, which read: “To my friends in Great Britain – it’s happening. It’s signed.”
Joshua’s bout with Prenga will be broadcast on DAZN, while his showdown with Fury is set to be featured on Netflix, which also aired Fury’s recent victory over Makhmudov.
