In a pivotal heavyweight eliminator bout that could define the trajectory of his career, Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller showcased his technical prowess and sheer determination to outmaneuver Lenier Pero in a 12-round battle at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. This Saturday night spectacle, held on April 26, 2026, was far from a knockout thriller but offered a masterclass in strategic boxing.

Miller, the 37-year-old veteran from North Bellmore, New York, tipped the scales at a formidable 305 pounds. Despite his size, Miller demonstrated finesse and technical skill, boasting a record of 28-1-2 with 22 knockouts. His opponent, the 30-year-old Pero, hailing from Miami, Florida, by way of Camaguey, Cuba, entered the ring with a record of 13-1 and eight knockouts. The stage was set for a classic clash of styles.

Pero started strong, utilizing precise body jabs to build an early lead in the first two rounds. However, Miller, employing an effective cross-arms defense reminiscent of the legendary Archie Moore, quickly adapted. Leveraging his significant size advantage—54 pounds over Pero—Miller began to dominate the center of the ring, backing Pero into the ropes and unleashing a barrage of hooks, body shots, and uppercuts.

As the rounds progressed, Miller’s experience and volume of punches began to take their toll. Pero, despite his initial accuracy, found himself overwhelmed by Miller’s relentless pressure and superior strength. The bout evolved into a close-quarters battle, with both fighters exchanging blows in a relentless give-and-take that lasted all 12 rounds.

Miller’s aggression and effectiveness were evident in the punch statistics. He threw a staggering 1003 punches compared to Pero’s 648, landing 290 to Pero’s 253. While Pero’s early accuracy was notable, it was Miller’s relentless pace and superior strength that ultimately secured him the victory.

The judges’ scorecards reflected Miller’s dominance, with scores of 117-111, 117-111, and 115-113 all in favor of the heavyweight contender. Referee Thomas Taylor oversaw a clean bout, ensuring a fair and competitive fight.

In other notable bouts on the card, Damian Sosa secured a victory over Freudi Rojas in a 10-round super welterweight contest. Alan Chaves retained his WBO Latino Lightweight title with a third-round knockout of Miguel Magdueno. Angel Barrientes triumphed over Luis Espinoza in an eight-round super bantamweight bout, and Nishant Dev stopped Juan Carlos Guerra Jr. in the second round of their super welterweight matchup. Phillip Vella also emerged victorious in a six-round bantamweight contest against Edwin Rodriguez.

Miller’s victory keeps his heavyweight world title hopes alive, proving that even in a bout lacking in explosive action, technical skill and sheer determination can carry the day. As the heavyweight division continues to evolve, Miller’s performance serves as a reminder of the enduring value of experience and strategic acumen in the sweet science.
