In a shocking turn of events, British heavyweight boxing sensation Anthony Joshua was involved in a severe automobile accident on the bustling Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Nigeria on Monday, December 29, 2025. The incident, which resulted in the tragic loss of two lives, left Joshua with minor injuries, as confirmed by local authorities.

The collision occurred when a Lexus Jeep, in which Joshua was a passenger, collided with a stationary truck. The impact was severe enough to claim the lives of two individuals instantly. Joshua, fortunately, sustained only minor bruises and was swiftly extracted from the wreckage by rescue teams and concerned bystanders.

Eyewitness accounts paint a harrowing picture of the scene. Adeniyi Orojo, a bystander who participated in the rescue efforts, described the chaos and immediate aftermath. According to Orojo, Joshua was seated behind the driver, accompanied by another passenger. The vehicle was part of a two-car convoy, with Joshua’s security detail trailing behind in a separate vehicle.

Local authorities, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, arrived promptly to manage the situation. The two deceased individuals were identified as Joshua’s close friends and coaches, Latz and Sina, who were seated in the front of the Lexus at the time of the crash. The news has sent shockwaves through the boxing community, with many expressing their condolences and relief that Joshua’s injuries were not more severe.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has been in contact with Joshua and confirmed that the boxer appears to be in stable condition based on initial assessments. However, they are awaiting further medical reports for a comprehensive understanding of his health status.

This incident comes on the heels of Joshua’s recent victory in the ring, adding a somber note to what should have been a celebratory period for the athlete. The accident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety, particularly on busy highways.

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. As the boxing world holds its breath, updates on Joshua’s condition and the progress of the investigation are eagerly awaited.

In the meantime, fans and fellow athletes alike have taken to social media to express their support for Joshua and their condolences to the families of the deceased. The boxing community stands united in hoping for Joshua’s swift recovery and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
