In a stunning display of skill and power, Claressa Shields successfully defended her undisputed heavyweight title with a decisive points victory over Franchon Crews-Dezurn in their highly anticipated rematch at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Sunday. The fight, which marked their second encounter since both made their professional debuts in 2016, ended with Shields maintaining her perfect record and further solidifying her status as one of the greatest boxers of her generation.

Shields, now boasting an impressive record of 18-0 with 3 KOs, demonstrated her superior speed and technical prowess from the opening bell. The tension that had been palpable at the weigh-in carried over into the ring, with both fighters eager to make their mark. Shields’ quick hands and precise combinations proved to be the difference, as she consistently outmaneuvered and outpunched her opponent.

By the fourth round, the effects of Shields’ relentless assault were evident on Crews-Dezurn’s face, which showed signs of damage. As the fight progressed, Crews-Dezurn, now 38, appeared increasingly fatigued, struggling to keep up with Shields’ pace. By the sixth round, Shields was landing almost at will, overwhelming her exhausted adversary with a barrage of punches.

Despite her valiant efforts, Crews-Dezurn was unable to mount a significant offense, and by the eighth round, she was visibly bloodied and missing wildly with her punches. Shields, ever the strategist, continued to pick her shots with precision, cruising through the final rounds with confidence and control. The judges’ scorecards reflected Shields’ dominance, with all three scoring the fight 100-90 in her favor.

In the aftermath of her victory, the 30-year-old Shields called out unified super middleweight world champion Shadasia Green, setting the stage for a potential showdown in the near future.

The undercard also provided its share of drama and excitement. Joseph George collapsed in his corner at the end of the first round of his bout with Atif Oberlton, who improved to 15-0 with 13 KOs. George, now 13-2 with 8 KOs, managed to get back on his feet but was deemed unfit to continue.

Former heavyweight title challenger Danielle Perkins made a triumphant return to the ring, securing a sixth-round stoppage victory over Australia’s Chei Kenneally. In a surprising upset, Samantha Worthington lost her unbeaten record and her interim WBA super lightweight title, retiring after eight rounds against Argentina’s Edith Matthysse.

Other notable performances included Shannel Butler’s comfortable points win over Danila Ramos at featherweight, and Savannah Tini’s continued unbeaten streak with a points victory over Vaida Masiokaite at super lightweight. Pryce Taylor, Jasmine Hampton, and Lance Smith also maintained their undefeated records with impressive stoppage wins in their respective matches.
