In a breathtaking display of resilience and power, Brandon Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KOs) seized the WBA featherweight title from Nick Ball (23-1-1, 13 KOs) with a dramatic twelfth-round knockout at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. The bout, which kept fans on the edge of their seats, showcased the best of featherweight boxing, culminating in a finish that will be remembered for years to come.

The fight began with both fighters showing their intent. Ball, the Liverpudlian champion, utilized his reach advantage effectively, landing crisp uppercuts and jabs. Figueroa, however, was not to be outdone. The former WBC belt holder pressed forward relentlessly, switching stances and engaging in close-quarters combat. The physicality of the bout was evident from the opening bell, with both fighters willing to trade punches and fight on the inside.

As the rounds progressed, the intensity only increased. Ball continued to land his jab and was not afraid to exchange blows with Figueroa. The American, fighting outside of the U.S. for the first time, matched Ball’s aggression and frequently found success with his left hooks. The bout remained closely contested, with neither fighter willing to give an inch.

Entering the twelfth and final round, the fight was still up for grabs. Both fighters had shown moments of brilliance, but it was Figueroa who would leave an indelible mark. Just seconds into the round, Figueroa landed a devastating left hook that sent Ball crashing to the canvas. The home crowd held their breath as Ball struggled to his feet, clearly still dazed from the blow. Referee Steve Gray allowed the fight to continue, but Figueroa smelled blood.

In a swift and brutal sequence, Figueroa unleashed a barrage of punches that sent Ball through the ropes. The referee had no choice but to wave off the fight, declaring Figueroa the new WBA featherweight champion. The official time of the stoppage was 0:32 of the twelfth round, marking a stunning come-from-behind victory for Figueroa.

This victory is particularly sweet for Figueroa, who has now claimed his second title reign at 126 lbs. His first stint as champion saw him hold the WBC belt, and with this win, he cements his legacy as one of the premier fighters in the featherweight division. For Ball, it was a heartbreaking end to his fourth title defense, but his performance throughout the fight showed why he has been considered one of the best in the division.

The undercard also provided its share of excitement. Jack Turner (14-0, 13 KOs) secured a third-round corner retirement against Juan Carlos Martinez Urbina (10-4-1, 4 KOs) in a super flyweight clash. Martinez Urbina, who was dropped in the first round, saw his corner withdraw him from the fight following the third round due to excessive holding.

In another thrilling bout, Andrew Cain (15-1, 13 KOs) claimed a ninth-round technical knockout against Alejandro Jair González (19-7-3, 11 KOs) in a bantamweight contest. Cain, who was knocked down twice in the eighth round, showed incredible resilience to come back and stop González in the ninth.

As the dust settles on this unforgettable night of boxing, the featherweight division has a new champion in Brandon Figueroa. His dramatic victory over Nick Ball will undoubtedly go down as one of the most memorable fights of the year, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what comes next for both fighters.
