In a surprising turn of events, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight title has been left vacant, sparking a whirlwind of speculation and anticipation in the boxing world. The vacancy comes on the heels of Terence Crawford’s retirement and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s unfortunate withdrawal due to post-surgery recovery.

Canelo, the Mexican boxing sensation, was slated to be a top contender for the vacant title. However, his recent elbow surgery has left him sidelined, forcing him to miss out on this golden opportunity. The last time we saw Canelo in the ring was in September 2025, where he faced off against Crawford in a high-stakes bout in Las Vegas. Despite his impressive track record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), three losses, and two draws, Canelo was unable to secure a victory that night, losing by unanimous decision.

With Canelo out of the picture, the spotlight now shifts to the mandatory challenger, Osleys Iglesias. The question on everyone’s mind is: who will step up to challenge Iglesias for the coveted IBF super middleweight title? The boxing community is abuzz with potential matchups and predictions, as fighters and fans alike eagerly await the IBF’s next move.

In other boxing news, British boxer Conor Benn has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging the reigning WBA world welterweight champion, Rolando Romero, to a bout in 2026. Benn, who last fought in November 2025 against Chris Eubank Jr., secured a victory by unanimous decision, bringing his record to 24 wins (14 by knockout) and one defeat. Romero, on the other hand, last entered the ring in May 2025 against Ryan Garcia, emerging victorious by unanimous decision. With a record of 17 wins (13 by knockout) and three defeats, Romero presents a formidable challenge for Benn.

As the boxing world continues to evolve, one thing is certain: the stage is set for an exciting year ahead. With titles up for grabs and challengers stepping up, fans can expect a thrilling lineup of bouts that will keep them on the edge of their seats. Stay tuned for more updates as the stories unfold.
