Indiana University’s football program has once again dipped into the transfer portal to bolster its quarterback roster, securing a commitment from TCU’s Josh Hoover. This marks the third consecutive season that the Hoosiers have added a quarterback through this route. Hoover, a rising senior, is set to enroll at the Big Ten school this month, bringing a wealth of experience and talent to the team.

The Hoosiers’ recent success, including a historic run in the College Football Playoff, has set the stage for high expectations. With the potential departure of Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza to the 2026 NFL Draft, Hoover’s arrival could not be more timely. His impressive track record at TCU, where he completed 65.9% of his passes for 3,472 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions during the 2025 season, makes him a strong candidate to fill Mendoza’s shoes.

Hoover’s journey to Indiana is particularly noteworthy given his history with the program. Originally committed to the Hoosiers as a 3-star prospect in the class of 2022, Hoover ultimately chose TCU following Indiana’s challenging 2021 season and the departure of then-offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan. His return to Indiana now feels like a full-circle moment, bringing his experience and leadership to a team poised for continued success.

Indiana’s recent transfer portal haul has been nothing short of impressive. In addition to Hoover, the Hoosiers have secured commitments from other top-tier players, including a highly-ranked wide receiver who amassed 59 receptions for 662 yards and six touchdowns in the 2025 season. This strategic recruitment underscores Indiana’s ambition to maintain its competitive edge in the Big Ten and beyond.

The Hoosiers’ ability to attract and integrate high-caliber transfers like Hoover is a testament to the program’s growing appeal and the coaching staff’s acumen. As Indiana continues to build on its historic season, the addition of Hoover is a clear signal of the team’s intent to remain a formidable force in college football. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Hoover steps into his new role, ready to lead the Hoosiers into the next chapter of their football journey.
