On March 14, the 3 Arena in Dublin will be the stage for a thrilling night of boxing, with Jazza Dickens making his Dublin debut against Mark Chamberlain. Dickens, the WBA title holder, is no stranger to Dublin, and his upcoming title defense against Anthony Cacace feels like a homecoming for the Liverpudlian fighter.

Dickens, who once trained in Ballyfermot, has a deep connection with Dublin. He fondly recalls his time in the city, where he was known as ‘Seamus Jazza O’Dickens.’ “Now I am back, I am Seamus again,” Dickens said, reflecting on his return to Dublin. “The respect is unbelievable, and this feels like a homecoming to me, with everyone coming over from Liverpool. I am very, very blessed to be in this position.”

The fighter expressed his admiration for Dublin and its boxing scene. “It is great to see Ireland thriving. Look at the city of Dublin, and it is a shame that the boxing hasn’t been here when you’ve got the amateur clubs who have kept putting the work in. It has nearly been here time and again, and now it is great to see it back. I am very proud of the city, and I class it as a second home to me.”

At the press conference launching the fight night, Dickens and Cacace showed mutual respect. Dickens expressed his gratitude for sharing the ring with Cacace, acknowledging him as a great champion. He also thanked Frank Warren and Queensberry for making the fight happen in Dublin.

Dickens’ journey to becoming a world champion is a testament to his dedication and skill. He remains unfazed by his upgrade from interim to world champion, stating, “I don’t feel nothing [about being upgraded from Interim champion], you can’t tell me I am not a world champion because I am. I am just like to fight, whether it is in an alleyway or for a world title. A fight is a fight, as soon as you get in the ring the belt has gone anyway, and you’ve got to win it back anyway.”

The upcoming fight night in Dublin promises to be an exciting event, with Dickens’ homecoming adding an extra layer of anticipation. As the WBA champion steps into the ring, he carries with him the support and respect of a city that has become his second home.
