Muratalla Overcomes Cruz in a Nail-Biting Lightweight Showdown

In a pulsating lightweight contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Raymond Muratalla, aged 29, successfully defended his IBF lightweight title against the formidable Andy Cruz, 30, on January 24, 2026. The bout, held at the glamorous Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, ended with Muratalla winning by majority decision, with scores of 114-114, 116-112, and 118-110.

Muratalla, boasting an unblemished record of 24-0 with 17 KOs, entered the ring as an underdog against the 2020 Olympic gold medalist Cruz. Despite the odds, Muratalla’s relentless pressure and strategic body shots in the championship rounds proved to be the deciding factors. This fight marked Cruz’s first professional loss, as he had not previously fought beyond 10 rounds.

The official scorecards indicated a clear victor, but the bout was widely regarded as a closely contested affair. Many ringside observers and unofficial scorecards suggested a much tighter match, with some even scoring it as a draw. The high-level contest showcased the skills and determination of both fighters, living up to the expectations of boxing enthusiasts worldwide.

In the post-fight press conference, Muratalla expressed his ambition to face the winner of the upcoming high-profile clash between Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez. This potential matchup promises to be another thrilling encounter in the lightweight division.

    Undercard Results

    • Zaquin Moses emerged victorious with a Unanimous Decision (UD) against Leandro Damian Medina in the Super Featherweight contest.

The evening’s events underscored the depth of talent in the boxing world, with each fight delivering its own unique brand of excitement and drama. As the lightweight division continues to heat up, fans can look forward to more electrifying matchups in the near future.
