In a stunning turn of events, Nick Ball’s reign as the WBA Featherweight World Champion came to a dramatic halt last night in Liverpool. The British boxer, who was aiming for his fourth successful title defense, was stopped in the 12th round by a relentless Brandon Figueroa, leaving the hometown crowd in disbelief.

The fight, held at the M&S Bank Arena, was a closely contested battle for 11 rounds, with both fighters showcasing their skills and determination. Ball, known for his aggressive inside fighting, was met with Figueroa’s relentless volume of punches. The tension and excitement were palpable as the two warriors exchanged blows, each round more intense than the last.

However, the tide turned in an instant at the beginning of the final round. Just seconds into the 12th, Figueroa landed a devastating straight left that sent Ball crashing to the canvas. The impact was immediate and decisive, marking a dramatic end to what had been a fiercely competitive match. Figueroa’s dominance in the punch statistics, with 757 punches thrown compared to Ball’s 567, underscored his relentless pressure throughout the fight.

For Ball, this defeat marks not only the loss of his world title but also the first loss of his professional career. The British fighter, who had been a beacon of hope for UK boxing, now faces a challenging period of reflection and recovery. Despite the setback, Ball’s performance was commendable, and his future in the sport remains bright.

Figueroa, on the other hand, demonstrated why he is a former two-division world champion. His victory over Ball is a testament to his skill, endurance, and strategic prowess. At 29, Figueroa has once again proven himself as a formidable force in the featherweight division, and his future prospects look promising.

The undercard also delivered exciting matches, with notable performances from Jack Turner, Brad Strand, and Sam Norris. Turner faced Juan Carlos Martinez in a 12-round junior bantamweight bout, while Strand took on Ruben Gonzalez in a 10-round junior featherweight contest. Norris, in a 4-round junior lightweight fight, showcased his potential against Jack England.

As the boxing world reflects on this thrilling night in Liverpool, one thing is clear: the sport continues to deliver unforgettable moments of drama, skill, and sheer determination. Nick Ball’s reign may have ended, but his journey is far from over. Meanwhile, Brandon Figueroa’s star continues to rise, promising more exciting battles in the future.
