Former India boxer Sakti Mazumdar, who had represented India on the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, died on Friday after struggling a coronary heart assault. He was 89. “With profound grief, we remorse to tell you that Mr Shakti Mazumdar handed away at Ballygunge, West Bengal at the moment,” Asit Banerjee, President of Bengal Novice Boxing Federation (BABF), mentioned in a launch. Mazumdar was affected by age-related points and had a coronary heart assault on Friday morning.
He had gained the primary spherical in males’s flyweight occasion on the 1952 Olympics after getting a walkover from Nguyen Van Cua of Vietnam and was defeated by Han Soo-ann of South Korea within the subsequent spherical.
