In a surprising turn of events, the super middleweight division finds itself in a state of flux. The retirement of Terence Crawford, who unified the division after his victory over Canelo Alvarez on September 13, 2025, has left a void at the top. The fragmentation of the titles has led to a scramble among contenders, but one name stands out as both a challenge and an opportunity: Osleys Iglesias.

The Cuban powerhouse, boasting an impressive record of 14-0 with 13 KOs, has emerged as the IBF’s top contender. His rise to prominence was cemented with a decisive victory over Vladimir Shishkin in a world title eliminator on September 4. However, despite his credentials, both Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia have declined the opportunity to face Iglesias, leaving the division in a state of uncertainty.

Canelo’s refusal comes as no surprise, given his recent elbow surgery in October. Munguia’s rejection, however, has raised eyebrows. With both top contenders stepping aside, the question on everyone’s mind is: who will step up to face the formidable Cuban?

Iglesias’ promoter, Camille Estephan, reportedly accepted the fight within minutes, showcasing a readiness that contrasts sharply with the hesitation of other contenders. The IBF will now have to look further down the rankings, with the No. 5-rated Callum Simpson unavailable due to his recent loss to Troy Williamson. Hamzah Sheeraz, currently ranked No. 7, has been ordered by the WBO to face Diego Pacheco for a world title, leaving the door open for other contenders.

One such contender is Pavel Silyagin, who currently holds the No. 7 spot in the IBF rankings. With a record of 16-0-1 and 7 KOs, Silyagin presents a viable option for Iglesias. A bout between Iglesias and Silyagin could provide the Cuban with the platform he needs to capture a world title and solidify his position as a force to be reckoned with in the super middleweight division.

Osleys Iglesias is not just another contender; he is a formidable force. Known for his aggressive front-foot fighting style and exceptional finishing ability, Iglesias embodies the true Cuban boxing tradition. His ability to control distance and deliver powerful blows with either hand makes him a nightmare for any opponent. Capturing the IBF crown would not only be a testament to his skill but also open the door to potential unification bouts, making it increasingly difficult for other top contenders to ignore him.

As the super middleweight division navigates this period of transition, one thing is clear: Osleys Iglesias is a name that will continue to dominate conversations. The question remains, who will be the first to step into the ring with the Cuban sensation and attempt to dethrone the middleweight bogeyman?
