In a bold move that has sent ripples through the boxing world, Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman has publicly called for Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford to step out of retirement and into the ring with him. This potential clash has reignited memories of their previous near-miss when both fighters were dominating the welterweight division. Crawford, who hung up his gloves in December, left the sport on a high note, having secured an undisputed super middleweight championship title with a stunning victory over Canelo Alvarez.

As Thurman prepares to face WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora this Saturday in Las Vegas, he can’t help but express his desire for a showdown with the five-weight world champion. “We want Bud back,” Thurman, 37, told reporters on Thursday. “I never got Crawford, I never got [Errol] Spence. If anyone’s going to come back, we’ve got to get Bud back.”

Fundora, known as ‘The Towering Inferno,’ will be making his third defense of the WBC crown against Thurman at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The bout will be available live on Amazon Prime pay-per-view. Fundora has been on a winning streak since his seventh-round knockout loss to Brian Mendoza, and Thurman has promised to deliver a similar performance this weekend.

“There’s always somebody out there who’s got your number,” Thurman said at Thursday’s final press conference. “And I believe I got it. Mendoza, we were just chatting, he gave me the cheat code. We’re going to give you that flashback. I’ll help you remember come March 28th. I’m here to make history. This is history in the making come March 28th.”

Thurman, a former unified welterweight titlist, shares a similar career trajectory with his rival, having only been beaten once—in 2019 by Manny Pacquiao. Since then, the Florida native has bounced back with two straight wins against Mario Barrios and Brock Jarvis respectively. Fundora, who boasts a nine-inch height advantage over Thurman, forced Tim Tszyu to retire after seven rounds in his most recent outing last July.

As the boxing world eagerly awaits the Thurman-Fundora showdown, the possibility of a Thurman-Crawford bout adds an extra layer of excitement. If Crawford were to answer Thurman’s call, it would undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated fights in recent boxing history. For now, all eyes are on Thurman and Fundora as they prepare to make history this Saturday.
