In a stunning display of skill and determination, Australian boxing sensation Tim Tszyu secured a unanimous decision victory over the previously undefeated Denis Nurja in the main event of a thrilling boxing night at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre in Australia. The event, which took place on Saturday night (U.S. time), showcased Tszyu’s dominance and resilience as he overcame his Albanian opponent in a 10-round battle.
Tszyu, a former world champion, demonstrated his prowess in the ring, delivering a masterful performance that left no doubt in the judges’ minds. All three judges scored the bout 100-88 in favor of Tszyu, marking a shutout decision that underscored his superiority throughout the match.
“He’s tough, and I expected that,” Tszyu remarked after the fight. “He came in with the perfect record, so I knew he was no joke. I had him a couple of times, but he didn’t drop. Those were some good rounds. I was trying to take him out, but he’s just tough. Big respect.”
The bout was not without its challenges for Tszyu. In the fourth round, a headbutt caused a cut under his left eye, adding a layer of complexity to the fight. However, Tszyu quickly rebounded, landing a powerful left hook that sent Nurja to the mat. Despite Nurja’s ability to rise to his feet, he continued to take punishment, including a wobbling overhand right in the sixth round.
Nurja’s desperation became evident in the seventh round when he was deducted a point for excessive holding. Tszyu capitalized on this, pouring on the offense in the final three rounds and wobbling Nurja in the last ten seconds of the bout.
With this victory, Tszyu continues his ascent back to world title contention at 154 pounds. His performance under the guidance of trainer Pedro Diaz has been impressive, and Tszyu is already looking ahead to future challenges. “I feel like I’m up for Errol Spence Jr,” Tszyu stated. “I think that would be one hell of a fight. That’s a banger. I don’t take a backward step. If he’s ready to meet me there, bring it on. I’m coming to catch the big fish. Let’s go fishing.”
In the co-main event, Australian super bantamweight contender Sam Goodman earned a unanimous decision victory over Argentina’s Rodrigo Ruiz in a 12-round IBF 122-pound title eliminator. Goodman’s versatile game and powerful shots were on full display, as he outlanded Ruiz 225 to 157, connecting on over 51% of his power shots.
The undercard action also saw victories from Nelson Asofa Solomona, Callum Peters, and Paulo Aokoso, adding to the excitement of the night. As Tszyu looks ahead to potential mega-fights, his performance against Nurja has solidified his status as a formidable force in the boxing world.
