In a recent interview, seasoned heavyweight contender Derek Chisora shared his candid thoughts on a potential bout between Oleksandr Usyk and rising star Moses Itauma. Chisora, who faced Usyk in 2020 in a closely contested match, offered a stark prediction about the outcome of such a fight.

Chisora, known for his straightforward and often colorful commentary, did not mince words when discussing Itauma’s chances against the Ukrainian maestro. “Usyk will blow the smoke at him,” Chisora stated. “Usyk will kill him.” This bold assertion underscores Chisora’s respect for Usyk’s skills and his belief in the significant challenge Itauma would face.

Moses Itauma, at just 21 years old, has quickly become one of the most talked-about talents in the heavyweight division. With an impressive record of 13 wins, including 11 stoppages, Itauma has demonstrated his prowess and potential. Despite his relatively limited professional experience, having boxed only 26 rounds, he has already taken on formidable opponents.

One of Itauma’s notable victories came against Mariusz Wach, a former world title challenger who has faced some of the toughest names in the division, including Dillian Whyte and Martin Bakole. Itauma dispatched Wach in just two rounds, showcasing his power and precision.

Itauma’s performance on the global stage has been equally impressive. He fought Dempsey McKean on the undercard of the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch, stopping McKean in just two minutes. His most recent bout against Dillian Whyte, expected to be a significant step up, ended in a first-round stoppage, further solidifying Itauma’s reputation as a formidable force in the heavyweight division.

The prospect of a fight between Usyk and Itauma has garnered significant attention. Saudi Arabian boxing chief Turki Alalshikh expressed his enthusiasm for the matchup on social media, stating, “I want to see Usyk against Itauma. This is the fight.”

Itauma was initially scheduled to return to the ring on January 24 against Jermaine Franklin at the Co-op Live in Manchester. However, an injury in training camp led to the postponement of the fight. Franklin, who has taken Dillian Whyte and two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua the distance, is now set to face Itauma on March 28.

As the boxing world eagerly anticipates Itauma’s return and the potential showdown with Usyk, Chisora’s warning serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that lie ahead for the young heavyweight sensation.
