In a highly anticipated rematch, Carlos Adames is set to defend his WBC World Middleweight title against the formidable Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams. The bout, rescheduled from its original date, will take place at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando on Saturday, March 21, and will be broadcast exclusively live on DAZN.
The two fighters were originally slated to meet at Madison Square Garden in New York, with their clash intended to be part of the undercard for the Shakur Stevenson vs. Teofimo Lopez fight. However, Adames was forced to withdraw due to illness, while Williams continued on the card and secured a ten-round victory over Wendy Toussaint.
Adames, boasting a record of 24-1-1 with 18 knockouts, will be making the third defense of his title. Elevated to full champion in May 2024, Adames successfully defended his title with a points win over Terrell Gausha in Las Vegas. His subsequent fight against Hamzah Sheeraz in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ended in a split draw.
Williams, with a record of 20-1 and 13 knockouts, is eager to seize the opportunity that was previously denied due to Adames’ illness. The 29-year-old has been on a winning streak, securing four victories over the past 14 months, which has propelled him to the number three spot in the WBC rankings.
‘Life doesn’t repeat opportunities – if you escaped once, consider it a miracle,’ Adames stated. ‘Destiny forgives once. After that, it collects. Not everyone gets two warnings. He already used one. Danger is coming to Orlando on March 21!’
Williams, equally determined, declared, ‘The second Ammo Show will be electric. This is the moment I become WBC Champion of the World and begin my reign. Ten years of dedication all boiling down to one night, don’t miss it!’
Promoter Eddie Hearn expressed his excitement about the fight, stating, ‘I am delighted to be able to deliver Ammo this fight so quickly. Ammo was obviously devastated in New York, but he held it together and got ten more rounds in, and now he gets the chance to become World champion as a headliner. I’m delighted for him and while it’s a tough champion to beat in Carlos, I know Ammo will give everything he has to achieve his dream and capture the famous green and gold belt.’
The undercard for the event is set to feature local talent, including Orlando native and Olympic bronze medalist Omari Jones. Jones, with a record of 5-0 and 4 knockouts, will be making his sixth appearance in the professional ranks. ‘I’m happy to be fighting in my hometown again,’ Jones said. ‘The Banger Show returns to Orlando.’
Further announcements regarding the undercard and ticket sales are expected in the coming weeks. Boxing fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting this thrilling showdown between Adames and Williams, promising an evening of high-stakes action and drama.
