In a historic night for mixed martial arts, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) made its highly anticipated debut in Pretoria, South Africa, at the SunBet Arena. The event, held on April 10, 2026, was a resounding success, with a packed crowd witnessing a series of thrilling bouts that showcased the best of African MMA talent.

The main event of the evening featured a bantamweight showdown between South Africa’s Nkosi Ndebele and Italy’s Michele Clemente. The fight was a classic display of striking prowess, with both fighters exchanging sharp punches and elbows from the outset. Ndebele, known as the “King of Many Nations,” showcased his counter-striking abilities, effectively neutralizing Clemente’s relentless pressure. After a grueling battle, Ndebele emerged victorious with a unanimous decision win, much to the delight of the hometown crowd.

The co-main event saw a dramatic turn of events in the heavyweight division. Senegal’s Abdoulaye Kane and South Africa’s Justin Clarke engaged in a fierce firefight. Kane initially gained the upper hand with a powerful combination that left Clarke bloodied and wobbly. However, Clarke’s resilience and determination shone through as he rallied back with a devastating counter right hand that sent Kane crashing to the canvas, securing a come-from-behind knockout victory in the first round.

In the welterweight tournament, Nigeria’s David Samuel made a strong statement in his opening bout, submitting Abdelrahman Mohammad in the first round. Samuel’s sharp boxing skills were on full display as he dropped Mohammad multiple times before transitioning to the ground and locking in the finish. Meanwhile, Guinea-Bissau’s Rivaldo Pereira, a late replacement, stepped in on short notice and made the most of his opportunity by stopping Kunle Lawal in the opening frame with a well-placed body shot followed by ground-and-pound elbows.

Angola’s Shido Boris Esperança also impressed in the welterweight tournament, delivering a near-flawless performance against Emilios Dassi. Esperança quickly took control of the fight, tripping Dassi to the canvas and unloading a barrage of elbows and punches that forced the referee to intervene for a first-round stoppage.

In another welterweight tournament bout, Yabna “The Panther” N’Tchala started strong against Peace Nguphane, landing heavy shots early. However, Nguphane’s resilience and grappling prowess allowed him to turn the tide, securing takedowns and maintaining top control. His ground-and-pound strategy earned him a unanimous decision victory, much to the delight of the South African crowd.

The event also featured an exciting catchweight bout between Nigerian fighters Juliet Ukah and Jane Osigwe. Ukah, known as “Golden Bones,” controlled the center of the cage and dictated the pace of the fight, landing steady counters and showcasing her striking abilities.

With these results, the PFL Africa: Pretoria event set the stage for thrilling semi-final matchups in the welterweight tournament. Fans can look forward to seeing David Samuel face off against Rivaldo Pereira, and Shido Boris Esperança take on Peace Nguphane, as these fighters battle for a place in the tournament final later this year.
