In a thrilling display of resilience and skill, Anthony ‘The Apache’ Cacace secured a decisive victory over James ‘Jazza’ Dickens on Saturday, March 14, at the packed 3Arena in Dublin. The bout, held on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, saw Cacace emerge triumphant by decision, claiming the WBA Super Featherweight title in a Queensberry Promotions event.

The atmosphere was electric as Cacace, the Belfast-born former IBF super-featherweight champion, entered the ring with a nine-fight win streak under his belt. His recent TKO victory over former champion Leigh Wood last May had set the stage for this high-stakes encounter. Dickens, on the other hand, was aiming to defend his title and add another chapter to his remarkable late-blooming career.

Dickens’ journey to the top has been anything but conventional. He holds the record for the longest time from professional debut to winning a first world title, a feat he achieved in December when he was elevated from WBA interim champion to full world champion after Lamont Roach was stripped of the belt. Despite facing setbacks, including a broken jaw in a 2016 bout against Guillermo Rigondeaux, Dickens’ perseverance has been commendable.

The fight itself was a testament to Cacace’s strategic prowess and Dickens’ tenacity. Cacace, the bookmakers’ favorite, lived up to expectations, showcasing his technical skills and ring intelligence. Dickens, however, was not to be underestimated. His determination to defend his title was evident in every round, making for a captivating contest that kept the sold-out crowd on the edge of their seats.

With this victory, Cacace becomes a two-time world champion, a milestone that underscores his enduring talent and dedication to the sport. The 37-year-old’s performance was a masterclass in boxing, blending defensive mastery with precise, effective offense. Dickens, despite the loss, demonstrated why he has managed to carve out a successful career in the sport, even as he transitions into a role as a manager under the Integrity Boxing Management banner.

The event was a celebration of boxing at its finest, with both fighters leaving everything in the ring. For Cacace, the win is a testament to his enduring skill and determination. For Dickens, it was a valiant effort in a career marked by resilience and an unwavering spirit. As the boxing world looks ahead, both fighters have proven that the sweet science continues to thrive, driven by the passion and dedication of its athletes.
