In a fitting tribute to a true legend, Muhammad Ali, fondly remembered as ‘The Greatest,’ has been immortalized on a U.S. postage stamp. The commemorative stamp was unveiled on January 15 in a heartfelt ceremony held in Ali’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

Ali’s remarkable career and his unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes have cemented his status as an icon for generations. As a three-time heavyweight champion, Ali’s name is etched in boxing history with his unforgettable victories over formidable opponents such as George Foreman, Joe Frazier, and Sonny Liston. Despite facing defeats, his triumphs both inside and outside the ring have elevated him to legendary status.

The stamp, aptly named the Ali Forever Stamp, features a striking black-and-white photograph of Ali in a classic boxing pose, captured in 1974. Each sheet of 20 stamps also includes an image of Ali in a pinstripe suit, symbolizing his activism and humanitarian efforts. The U.S. Postal Service has printed 22 million of these stamps, and once sold out, they will not be reprinted, adding to their collectible value.

Lonnie Ali, Ali’s widow, who was married to him for nearly three decades, expressed her joy and excitement about the tribute. ‘As the guardian of his legacy, I’m thrilled. Every time people look at that stamp, they will remember him. He will be in the forefront of their consciousness, and for me, that’s a thrill,’ she said.

Ali, known for his wit and charm, once quipped that he should be a postage stamp because ‘that’s the only way I’ll ever get licked.’ Beyond his Olympic gold medal and three heavyweight world titles, Ali was also recognized for his global humanitarian efforts. He received the United Nations Messenger of Peace award in 1998 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

Although Ali passed away in 2016 at the age of 74 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, his legacy continues to inspire and resonate. The release of this postage stamp is a testament to his enduring impact on the world, ensuring that ‘The Greatest’ will forever remain in our hearts and minds.
