Sebastian Fundora Dominates Keith Thurman in Sixth-Round Knockout: A Night of Triumph in Las Vegas
In a spectacular display of skill and power, WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Sebastian Fundora successfully defended his title with a sixth-round stoppage of former unified champion Keith “One Time” Thurman. The thrilling matchup took place on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video.
Fundora, standing at an imposing 6’6″, has been a dominant force in the 154-pound division, and his victory over Thurman further solidifies his status as a top-tier fighter. The champion’s relentless training and dedication were evident as he outclassed Thurman, landing a staggering 96 shots compared to Thurman’s 26, according to CompuBox statistics. Fundora’s defensive prowess was also on full display, as he limited Thurman to just three landed jabs throughout the bout.
The fight took a decisive turn in the fourth round, as Fundora began to unleash his power attacks. Thurman, however, showed his championship mettle by coming out aggressively in the fifth round, landing a flush right hand on Fundora’s face. Despite this, Fundora remained unfazed and continued his onslaught, culminating in a piercing left hook that sent Thurman staggering back to his corner.
Early in the sixth round, Fundora sensed his opportunity and went back to work with a series of power shots. A right uppercut left Thurman’s left eye badly cut, and the former champion was unable to keep Fundora at bay. Referee Thomas Taylor stepped in to stop the bout at 1:17 into the round, much to Thurman’s frustration.
“We’ve put in an incredible amount of work for this fight,” Fundora said after his victory. “I’ve always looked up to Keith. He’s a Hall of Famer, and I have the utmost respect for him. That’s why I trained so hard—to prove to the world that I’m the best at 154 pounds. I’ve fought in high-class fights that have allowed me to mature and grow, and I’ll continue to strive for greatness.”
Thurman, gracious in defeat, acknowledged Fundora’s prowess. “Sebastian definitely came in shape. He throws a lot of punches. The uppercut that caught me and cut me was an awkward punch that I’ve never been hit with before. The man brings it. He’s a tremendous champion, and I can lift my head up high knowing I was defeated by a great young fighter.”
Despite his frustration with the early stoppage, Thurman praised the action-packed nature of the fight. “The fight was getting really good. The fans were loving the action, and the referee stopped the fight too early. They don’t have the guts to let the fights go on like the Erik Morales days…”
With this impressive victory, Sebastian Fundora has once again proven his elite status in the super welterweight division. As he sets his sights on future challenges, the boxing world eagerly awaits his next move.
