In a career-defining moment, Glen Byrne is set to step into the ring this Friday night at Planet Ice, Altrincham, to face the formidable William Crolla. This high-profile co-main event marks the most significant stage of Byrne’s career thus far. Unlike his brother Jay, who once crossed the Irish Sea to challenge top-tier fighters like Anthony Fowler and Josh Kelly, Glen Byrne enters this bout with unwavering confidence, believing Crolla lacks the prowess of those world-class opponents.

Byrne’s confidence is not merely internal; it is bolstered by extensive study of his opponent. “I’ve watched him. I’ve seen a lot of his fights. To be totally honest with you, I don’t think he’s special,” Byrne stated bluntly. “He’s quite basic. I don’t think he has the biggest amateur background, and I think that’s quite evident in his performances. He looks to be strong—but I’m genuinely very, very confident of going over there and winning.”

This confidence is further fueled by the positive feedback Byrne has received since the fight announcement. “Since the fight’s been announced, any of the feedback I’ve gotten is all positive and confidence towards me. I have a fire in my belly like never before. It’s completely different to any fight I’ve had before,” Byrne shared. “Everything on my mind is to do with this fight. As I said, I’m ready to take this opportunity with both hands.”

Byrne’s preparation for this bout has been swift but focused. Having fought as recently as last month and with another fight scheduled for May, Byrne was caught off guard by the offer but didn’t hesitate to accept. “I was actually in work, first day back after my last fight, eating loads of grub, enjoying my downtime,” he explained. “Jay contacted me and asked would I be interested in taking the fight. Come here—it’s a huge, huge opportunity. Obviously, you’d want more notice, but I’m still fit. I took the fight straight away.”

The mindset shift since accepting the fight has been immediate and intense. “That switch has brought a surge of excitement—and focus. I’m absolutely buzzing. I genuinely can’t wait. Opportunities like this don’t come around too often,” Byrne said. He is fully aware of the potential doors a victory could open for his career. “When I win this fight, it opens so many doors for me. I think it really pushes me on in my career,” he added.

In other boxing news, Conor Benn has denied claims of borrowing £500,000 from Eddie Hearn to cover legal fees related to a failed drug test in 2022. Benn, who is set to face Regis Prograis on April 11 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, has expressed his desire to bring a title fight with Ryan Garcia to a UK stadium later this year if victorious.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Fundora reflected on his recent win over Keith Thurman, stating that the fight was “a lot easier than I expected.” Fundora dominated the action from the opening bell, securing a one-sided victory that has further solidified his position in the super welterweight division.
