In a highly anticipated bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Conor Benn secured a unanimous decision victory over the seasoned Regis Prograis. The fight, which took place at a 150lb catchweight, marked Benn’s return to the ring after a tumultuous period following his failed drugs test in 2022. Boxing legend Carl Froch, known for his candid assessments, shared his insights on Benn’s performance.

Benn, now with a record of 25-1 and 14 KOs, faced a formidable opponent in Prograis, who boasts 30 wins and 24 KOs. Despite Prograis’ impressive resume and Benn’s relentless forward momentum, the fight proved to be more challenging than expected. Prograis, fighting above his usual weight and battling injuries to his right hand, eye, rib, and jaw, showcased his resilience and experience.

The judges’ scorecards reflected Benn’s dominance with scores of 98-92 across the board. However, the fight revealed areas where Benn could improve, particularly in his inside fighting. Prograis, despite his injuries, had moments of brilliance, reminding fans of his two-time junior welterweight world champion status.

Prograis, who has fought four times outside the United States, with three of those fights in the UK resulting in losses, showed his characteristic grit. This fight, however, marked his final stand, as he announced his retirement after the bout. Prograis’ career, filled with memorable performances, came to a close in front of a passionate crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Benn, signed with Zuffa Boxing, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to fight in such a prestigious venue. “Never in my life did I dream of being where I am now,” Benn said. “Few fighters have had the chance to get acclimated to the white-hot atmosphere generated by the passionate British boxing fans inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”

Looking ahead, Benn has called for the WBC to order a fight against Ryan Garcia, signaling his ambition to take on top names at 147. As Benn continues to evolve in his career, fans eagerly anticipate his next steps and the potential matchups that lie ahead.

Carl Froch’s analysis underscores the complexities of Benn’s performance. While Benn’s victory is commendable, the fight highlighted areas for growth and the need for continued refinement as he aims for the upper echelons of the welterweight division.
