In a highly anticipated return to the ring, former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to face Albanian powerhouse Kristian Prenga on July 25th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This bout marks a significant step in Joshua’s journey back to the top, with the ultimate goal of securing a showdown with fellow Briton Tyson Fury later this year.

Prenga, aged 35, boasts an impressive perfect knockout record, having stopped all 20 of his opponents. Standing at 6ft 5in, he presents a formidable challenge for Joshua’s comeback fight. Despite being slightly shorter than Joshua, Prenga’s knockout prowess and professional record make him a formidable opponent.

Prenga turned professional in 2016 with a second-round stoppage against Pavel Siska, setting the tone for his career. Remarkably, 18 of his victories have come before the fifth round, underscoring his explosive power. His lone defeat came in his fifth professional fight, a decision loss to Giovanni Auriemma. However, Prenga has since rebounded strongly, with his most recent victory being a first-round stoppage of Joe Jones in Atlantic City just two months ago.

Interestingly, Prenga’s background is not rooted in traditional amateur boxing. Instead, he transitioned to boxing from kickboxing, where he was a two-time European champion. This unique path to professional boxing adds an intriguing layer to his story and fighting style.

Residing in Edgewater, New Jersey, Prenga views this fight as a career-defining opportunity. In a recent interview, he expressed his determination to upset the odds and derail Joshua’s plans. “I know they are overlooking me. I’m happy about that. I will derail their plans and shock the world this July in Saudi Arabia,” Prenga stated confidently.

The context of Prenga’s comments lies in the recent news that Joshua has signed to fight Tyson Fury later this year. The long-awaited clash between Joshua and Fury has been a topic of discussion for over a decade, and with the fight now signed, the boxing world eagerly anticipates one of the sport’s most significant matchups.

As July 25th approaches, all eyes will be on Riyadh, where Anthony Joshua aims to make a triumphant return to the ring, while Kristian Prenga seeks to make a name for himself on the global stage. This bout promises to be a thrilling encounter, setting the stage for an even more monumental showdown later in the year.
