In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Amanda Serrano successfully defended her WBA and WBO featherweight titles against the undefeated Reina Tellez on January 3rd, 2026, at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The bout, which was the main event of an all-women’s boxing card, ended with Serrano victorious via unanimous decision, with scores of 97-93, 98-92, and 97-93.

Serrano, a future boxing Hall-of-Famer, entered the ring with an impressive record of 47-4-1, including 31 knockouts. Her storied career has seen her capture world titles in seven different weight classes, a feat unmatched by any other Puerto Rican boxer, male or female. Despite her recent losses to Katie Taylor, Serrano’s prowess and experience were evident as she faced the younger, undefeated Tellez.

Tellez, with a record of 13-0-1 and 5 knockouts, was ranked No.15 in the women’s super-bantamweight division. Her youth and undefeated status made her a formidable opponent, but Serrano’s experience and technical skills proved to be the deciding factors in the bout. The fight was a testament to Serrano’s enduring legacy and her commitment to pushing women’s boxing forward under equal rules.

The pre-fight press conference and weigh-in were highly anticipated events, setting the stage for a night of intense competition. The main card kicked off at 8 p.m. ET, with the main event taking place around 11 p.m. ET. The prelims, which aired for free on YouTube starting at 3:15 p.m. ET, featured a series of exciting matches that set the tone for the evening.

Serrano’s victory was not just a personal triumph but a significant moment for women’s boxing. Her fight against Tellez was a rare 10-round featherweight bout, showcasing the athletes’ endurance and skill. Serrano’s ability to defend her titles on home soil added to the emotional weight of the victory, making it a memorable night for both the champion and her fans.

As the first championship boxing event of 2026, the Serrano vs. Tellez fight set a high bar for the year ahead. With major title implications and a display of top-tier athletic prowess, the event was a fitting start to what promises to be an exciting year for the sport. Serrano’s continued dominance in the featherweight division and her commitment to elevating women’s boxing ensure that her legacy will endure for years to come.
