In a stunning upset that has sent shockwaves through the boxing world, Bayo Alabi, the newly crowned BUI Celtic champion, has proven that belief in oneself can defy all expectations. The Dublin-based fighter, under the JB Promotions banner, took a calculated gamble by accepting a fight against an undefeated local favorite in his own backyard. The reward? A spectacular victory and a new featherweight champion.

Alabi’s journey to Glasgow was met with skepticism. Queensberry and the bookies had written him off, expecting an easy win for Marcus Sutherland. However, Alabi was undeterred. He believed in his abilities and was confident that he would emerge victorious. His faith in himself was not misplaced.

The fight, which took place over eight rounds, was a masterclass in boxing. Alabi’s unique style and the high-level training he receives at the Unit 3 gym, alongside the likes of Gary Cully, Kelsey Leonard, and Aodhán Byrne, proved to be the difference. The judges’ scorecards of 79-74, 78-74, 78-74 in his favor were a testament to his dominance in the ring.

“I was meant to come here to lose, but me and the team knew I was coming here to tear up the script,” Alabi stated after his victory. “No disrespect to Marcus, but I just knew I was going to be different gravy compared to him. We weren’t on the same level, and it was clear to see that.”

This victory marks a significant milestone in Alabi’s career. It is not just a personal achievement but also a testament to the strategy employed by JB Promotions. The stable, led by Jay Byrne, has shown a willingness to take risks by accepting fights on big British cards, providing their fighters with opportunities to earn good purses and gain momentum in their careers.

Alabi’s options have certainly increased with this title win. While there were talks of fights with Cian Doyle and Teo Alin before his trip to Scotland, British featherweights will now have their eyes set on the Westside BC graduate. This victory could open doors to more opportunities abroad, further solidifying Alabi’s position as a leading featherweight both domestically and across the Irish Sea.

The boxing world will be watching closely to see what’s next for Bayo Alabi. One thing is certain: his belief in himself and his abilities has propelled him to new heights, and he shows no signs of slowing down.
