Amanda Serrano, the Puerto Rican powerhouse, etched another memorable chapter into her illustrious career as she successfully defended her unified WBA and WBO featherweight titles against Reina Tellez on Saturday night at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. The highly anticipated bout, contested under men’s boxing rules with three-minute rounds, showcased Serrano’s relentless determination and fighting spirit, as she overcame a badly swollen right eye to secure a unanimous decision victory.

The scores of 98-92, 97-93, and 96-94 painted a clear picture of Serrano’s dominance throughout the fight. Despite Tellez’s valiant efforts, Serrano’s swarming offense and relentless pressure proved too much for the challenger. The fight, which was originally scheduled to feature Erika Cruz, took an unexpected turn when Cruz was pulled from the bout due to an adverse finding in her drug test. Tellez, accepting the fight on just 15 days’ notice, put up a spirited performance but ultimately fell short against the seasoned champion.

Serrano’s performance was a testament to her resilience and fighting spirit. As the swelling in her right eye increased in the middle rounds, she adapted her strategy, working Tellez’s body and maintaining her high-volume output. Her corner played a crucial role in keeping the eye from closing, allowing Serrano to resume her relentless offense in the latter rounds. Despite Tellez missing weight for the fight, Serrano’s defense remained unwavering, showcasing her versatility and adaptability as a champion.

The undercard also featured a thrilling contest between Stephanie Han and Holly Holm. Han emerged victorious, defeating Holm on points after their WBA lightweight world title fight was stopped in the seventh round following a clash of heads. The night was a celebration of women’s boxing, with Serrano and Han both delivering impressive performances in front of their home crowd.

As Serrano continues to cement her legacy as one of the greatest female boxers of all time, her next challenge remains uncertain. However, one thing is clear: the Puerto Rican sensation will continue to defend her titles with the same passion, determination, and fighting spirit that have defined her illustrious career. The world of boxing eagerly awaits her next chapter, as Serrano continues to inspire and captivate fans around the globe.
