In the realm of Irish boxing, Anthony Cacace is a name that resonates with determination and skill. Known as ‘The Apache,’ Cacace is poised to carve his legacy deeper into the annals of Irish sports history. After clinching the IBF world title by defeating Joe Cordina in May 2024, Cacace embarked on a journey that saw him vacate his title in pursuit of financial security for his family. However, his path led him to face formidable opponents like Josh Warrington and Leigh Wood, fights that not only bolstered his bank account but also enhanced his reputation.

Now, with his sights set on legacy rather than financial gain, Cacace is preparing for another world title opportunity. On March 14th, the Belfast native will return to Dublin to vie for the WBA super featherweight gold. His motivation is palpable, driven by a desire to be mentioned alongside Irish boxing legends such as Wayne McCullough, Steve Collins, Carl Frampton, Ryan Burnett, and Katie Taylor.

“Before, we spoke about financial gains and all that,” Cacace reflected. “And yeah, it’s lovely—I’ve got a house, we’re okay—but now it’s about legacy. I want this championship more than anything. I really do believe I want this more than I wanted to win the Cordina fight. I don’t know why—maybe because I’ve seen what it takes and I know I should be a world champion again.”

For Cacace, becoming a two-time world champion would be a monumental achievement, especially considering the challenges he faced early in his career. A victory in Dublin during St. Patrick’s week would be a crowning moment, but the Queensberry-mentored fighter believes there is still more to accomplish.

“I look at the division and I believe I’m top ten. I should have a title again,” he asserted.

His opponent, Jazza Dickens, presents a unique challenge, both stylistically and emotionally. Dickens, who has trained and lived in Dublin, has strong connections to the Irish boxing scene, adding a layer of familiarity to their upcoming bout.

“It almost feels like I’m fighting another Irish guy,” Cacace said. “He’s trained with people I know, he’s friends with fighters I’m close to. There’s nothing but respect.”

However, respect will not diminish the intensity once the bell rings. “At the end of the day, it’s whoever wants it most—and I really, really want it,” Cacace declared.

As Cacace prepares for this pivotal fight, his focus is unwavering. He is not just fighting for a title; he is fighting for his place in history, for the chance to be remembered as one of Ireland’s greatest boxers. The stage is set, and the world will be watching as Anthony Cacace steps into the ring, ready to claim his legacy.
