In the dynamic world of boxing, young prospect Donagh Keary is making waves with a strategic shift in his approach to the sport. The Castlewellan native, known for his energetic and sometimes reckless style, is embracing maturity as he prepares for his first six-round fight. Keary admits that his previous eagerness to impress and entertain may have led to a lack of control in the ring. However, as he gears up for his upcoming bout with Jake Pollard at the Waterfront, a more measured mindset is taking hold.

“I think six rounds will suit me more,” Keary explained. “I’ll slow down, box, and not go out going mad.” This shift in strategy is not just about personal growth but also about opening doors to title eligibility. A victory on the Conlan Boxing card would pave the way for Keary to fight for the BUI Celtic title, a significant step in his career.

“I want a title by the end of this year,” Keary declared. “I could do bantamweight or super bantamweight for a title. There’s a load of people my weight domestically, and I believe I could beat all of them.” This bold claim is not without substance, as the domestic scenes at bantamweight and super bantamweight are thriving, offering plenty of opportunities for a fighter willing to take risks.

Before Keary can set his sights on a title, he must first overcome the immediate challenge posed by Pollard. The Conlan Boxing prospect expects Pollard to test both his patience and precision. “I expect it to be challenging to land clean,” Keary admitted. “Jake has a good defense and a tight guard, so I’ll have to pry it open to land clean.” Despite the anticipated challenges, Keary predicts a good performance and a fan-friendly fight.

Keary’s evolution as a boxer is a testament to his dedication and adaptability. By embracing a more strategic approach, he is not only enhancing his own skills but also setting the stage for a promising future in the sport. As he steps into the ring with Pollard, all eyes will be on Keary to see if his newfound maturity will indeed be the key to unlocking his full potential.
