Eddie Hearn Casts Doubt on Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder Bout Amid Tyson Fury Speculation

In a recent development, Eddie Hearn, the renowned promoter, has expressed his skepticism regarding the likelihood of a highly anticipated match between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. This uncertainty is further compounded by the looming possibility of a showdown with Tyson Fury.

Joshua, who has been a constant presence ringside alongside Hearn during the recent fights of both Wilder and Fury, has been the subject of call-outs from both heavyweight contenders. Fury, in particular, has been vocal in his challenge, demanding that his long-standing rival agree to a fight following his victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov last Saturday. The exchange was marked by a palpable intensity, reflecting the high stakes and personal animosity between the two fighters.

This public appearance marked Joshua’s first since a tragic car accident in Nigeria in December, which resulted in the loss of two of his close friends. At 36, Joshua is at a critical juncture in his career, and Hearn has outlined a potential timeline for his return to the ring, targeting a comeback in July followed by a potential Fury fight in November.

Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, has indicated his openness to arranging a fight between Joshua and Wilder. However, he suggests that Turki Alalshikh, the influential figure in Saudi Arabian boxing, may be less inclined to risk a potential Fury fight by pitting Joshua against Wilder, who boasts an impressive 95% knockout ratio.

“We are open to the idea of Joshua facing Wilder next, followed by a bout with Tyson Fury,” Hearn stated to the media. “However, this is not the offer that has been presented to us, as His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and Netflix have significant investments at stake. They seem to prefer a more direct path rather than a riskier fight.”

Hearn further elaborated, “We would be comfortable with that fight if the opportunity arose. We have discussed the caliber of opponents and the financial aspects, and the figures for a Wilder fight are substantial, given its significance.”

Former heavyweight champion Wilder, who recently secured a split decision win over Derek Chisora, has also been vocal in his challenge to Joshua, urging him to “do it next.” When asked about his preference between facing Fury or Wilder, Joshua remained coy, simply responding, “Both.”

The boxing world now waits with bated breath as the potential matchups and their implications continue to unfold. The decisions made in the coming months could shape the landscape of heavyweight boxing for years to come.
