In a stunning display of resilience and skill, Josh ‘PBK’ Kelly claimed the IBF super welterweight title this past Saturday, setting the stage for a potential high-stakes bout with long-time rival Conor Benn. The newly crowned champion overcame a ninth-round knockdown to secure a majority decision victory over Bakhram Murtazaliev in a thrilling 12-round contest held in Sunderland.

Kelly, who has engaged in a war of words with Benn for several years, wasted no time in calling out ‘The Destroyer’ following his triumphant performance. Speaking on a popular sports radio show, Kelly expressed his confidence in dominating Benn, stating, “Conor Benn shouldn’t want this fight because he will get beaten up by me. There is a gulf in class in that fight.”

The Sunderland native’s victory has positioned him as a formidable force in the welterweight division. Despite Benn’s impressive resume, which includes a notable win over Chris Eubank Jr in their fierce rematch last November, Kelly believes he is on a different level. “I think personally it might be a bit unfair on him throwing him in there with me right now,” Kelly remarked. “For me, it is an easy money fight.”

Benn, who is eyeing a world title shot next, has been linked to several high-profile opponents, including Ryan Garcia, Shakur Stevenson, and Rolando Romero. However, a showdown with Kelly could prove to be an enticing prospect for both fighters and fans alike. Benn is set to return to the 147-pound division after his recent stint at 160 pounds for his bouts with Eubank Jr.

In addition to Benn, Kelly’s contract with Matchroom Boxing includes a potential clash with Jaron Ennis, who has been making waves in the welterweight division. With multiple exciting options on the table, Kelly’s future in the sport looks brighter than ever.

As the dust settles on his championship victory, all eyes are on Josh Kelly and his next move. One thing is certain: the welterweight division is heating up, and fans can expect fireworks in the ring as these elite fighters vie for supremacy.
