In a highly anticipated light flyweight bout, Thanongsak Simsri successfully defended his IBF world title against the undefeated Sergio Alfonso Mendoza Cordova on Monday, April 13th, at the iconic Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The fight, which was the main event of the evening, ended in a spectacular knockout victory for Simsri at 2:32 in the second round.

Thanongsak Simsri, the reigning IBF light flyweight champion, entered the ring with an impressive professional record of 39-1-0, including 34 knockouts. His only loss came in 2022 against Masamichi Yabuki, but since then, Simsri has been on a remarkable winning streak, securing 15 consecutive victories. His most recent triumphs include wins over Masataka Taniguchi, Songchai Songklod, and Cristian Araneta.

Sergio Alfonso Mendoza Cordova, the undefeated challenger, brought a perfect record of 27-0-0, with 23 knockouts, into the fight. Ranked as the No.3 light flyweight in the world, Mendoza had recently defeated Edinson Martinez, Joel Cordova, and Mpumelelo Tshabalala, making him a formidable opponent for Simsri.

The fight lived up to its expectations, with both fighters showcasing their skills and determination. However, it was Simsri who ultimately prevailed, delivering a decisive knockout blow in the second round that left Mendoza unable to continue. This victory not only solidifies Simsri’s position as the IBF light flyweight champion but also adds another impressive win to his already stellar record.

The evening at Korakuen Hall was filled with excitement and anticipation, as fans eagerly awaited the outcome of this high-stakes bout. Simsri’s victory was met with cheers and applause, celebrating his successful title defense and the thrilling performance he delivered.

As the boxing world looks ahead to future matchups, Simsri’s win over Mendoza will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of the year. The champion’s skill, power, and determination were on full display, reaffirming his status as one of the top light flyweights in the world.
