In a stunning display of skill and strategy, Matty Boreland recently secured a decisive victory at the Waterfront Hall, showcasing a more refined and calculated approach to his fighting style. The Irish champion, known for his aggressive ‘Bam Bam’ persona, has been working closely with former unified world champion Ryan Burnett, who he credits with transforming his game.

Boreland, a native of Coleraine, praised Burnett’s attention to detail and tactical acumen, stating, “Ryan is the best coach you could ever have, especially when it comes to the finer points of the sport. You return to your corner, follow his instructions, and it’s like having a secret weapon. He advised me to step back and guide my opponent into a left hook, and it worked perfectly right away. Having Ryan in your corner is like having a cheat code.”

This victory marks another milestone in Boreland’s career, building on his momentum since winning the Irish title against Rudy Farrell last September. At 27 years old, Boreland believes that Burnett’s guidance has honed every aspect of his game, from his footwork to his defensive maneuvers. While some fans may miss his previous seek-and-destroy style, observers noted a more composed and calculated Boreland in the ring, particularly in his ability to slip shots and avoid danger.

Despite his impressive performance, Boreland admitted to feeling slightly frustrated that he didn’t secure a stoppage victory. “I’m a bit annoyed that I didn’t finish him off,” he confessed. “But I think it’s good to feel this way because it motivates me to go back and work on improvements, rather than thinking everything was perfect.”

Boreland also opened up about his newfound self-belief, which he attributes to Burnett’s coaching. “A lot of my issues stemmed from a lack of self-confidence,” he explained. “I didn’t think I was that good. But now, I feel like I have that extra bit of confidence, and it’s bringing out the best in me as a fighter.”

With Burnett’s expertise and his own growing self-assurance, Matty Boreland is poised to make even greater strides in his boxing career. As he continues to refine his skills and adopt a more strategic approach to his fights, the Irish champion is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in the ring.
