In a highly anticipated boxing event, Raymond “Danger” Muratalla successfully defended his IBF lightweight title against Andy Cruz on Saturday, January 24, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The fight, which was the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card, showcased the best of lightweight boxing, with both fighters displaying exceptional skill and determination.

The evening’s action began at approximately 17:00 PT/20:00 ET/01:00 GMT, with the undercard setting the stage for the thrilling main event. Among the undercard bouts, Khalil Coe secured a victory against Jesse Hart, adding to the excitement of the night.

From the opening bell, Cruz demonstrated his quick hand speed and combination punching, finding a consistent target with his right hand. Muratalla, with an undefeated record of 24-0 and 17 KOs, had his moments but was initially outpaced by the Cuban’s agility. However, the IBF champion found his rhythm in the second round, taking control of the ring and landing effective shots at close range.

As the fight progressed, both boxers had their share of success. Cruz’s jab and movement were impressive, while Muratalla excelled when he closed the distance. The seventh round saw Cruz’s hand speed and accuracy on full display, but Muratalla countered with notable body work towards the end of the round. The contrast between Muratalla’s pressure and Cruz’s slick movement made for a captivating contest as the fight entered the championship rounds.

The eleventh round was particularly exciting, with Muratalla landing heavy combinations and a sharp left hand that rocked Cruz. The American continued to apply pressure in the final round, finishing the 12-round fight strongly. The judges’ scorecards read 114-114, 118-110, and 116-112, all in favor of Muratalla, ensuring he retained his IBF lightweight title.

Earlier in the evening, Khalil Coe faced off against the experienced Jesse Hart in the light heavyweight division. The buildup to this fight was filled with drama, as Coe missed weight by 7.8 pounds, resulting in a 30% deduction of his fight purse and the forfeiture of the WBC USA light heavyweight title.

In the opening rounds, Coe had success with his right hand, but Hart found his range and picked his punches effectively. The third round saw a point deduction for Coe after he picked up and slammed Hart, a move that frustrated the young fighter. Hart’s control of the distance and higher punch output gave him an edge at the midway point of the fight. However, a tired Hart was deducted a point for holding in the sixth round, which proved to be Coe’s best round as he landed a hurtful right hand.

The evening’s events at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas provided boxing fans with a night of thrilling action and memorable performances. Muratalla’s successful title defense and the dramatic undercard bouts ensured that the event will be remembered as a highlight in the boxing calendar.
