In a night filled with anticipation and controversy, Jai Opetaia stepped into the ring in Las Vegas, not just to defend his unbeaten record, but to make a statement in his debut under the Zuffa Boxing banner. Despite the International Boxing Federation’s decision to withdraw its sanctioning from the bout, Opetaia remained steadfast in his commitment to the sport and his fans.

The drama unfolded in the weeks leading up to the fight, with the IBF announcing that it would no longer recognize the bout as an official title defense. This decision came after the IBF objected to the introduction of the new Zuffa cruiserweight belt, which was to be at stake in the main event. The IBF’s rules stipulate that for the purpose of unification of titles, champions from other major organizations may be designated as ‘elite contenders’ and permitted to fight for a unified title. However, the IBF ultimately decided to pull its sanctioning, leaving the Zuffa belt as the sole title on the line.

Opetaia, a 30-year-old Australian southpaw with an impressive record of 29-0 and 23 knockouts, showed his professionalism and dedication by adhering to the second-day rehydration weight check, even though it was no longer a requirement. His opponent, Brandon Glanton, a 34-year-old American with a record of 21-3 and 18 knockouts, also stepped up to the challenge, promising a thrilling encounter.

The fight itself did not disappoint. Opetaia’s skill and precision were on full display as he outmaneuvered Glanton, securing a victory that kept his unbeaten streak intact. Despite the IBF’s decision to strip him of his title, Opetaia’s performance in the ring spoke volumes about his character and determination.

Looking ahead, Opetaia’s future in the cruiserweight division remains bright. With the Zuffa Boxing promotion behind him, he has expressed his willingness to fight for all the belts and ensure that the cruiserweight division becomes undisputed. Fans can expect to see more of Opetaia as he continues to make waves in the boxing world.

The event was broadcast in the United States on Paramount+, while viewers in the United Kingdom had the opportunity to watch the fight card for free on Zuffa Boxing’s YouTube channel. As the dust settles on this dramatic night, one thing is clear: Jai Opetaia is a force to be reckoned with, and his journey in the world of boxing is far from over.
