Paddy ‘Pretty Boy’ Walsh, the Kerry-born lightweight sensation, is poised to make a significant leap in his professional boxing career. The talented pugilist has hinted at an imminent announcement regarding a high-stakes title fight scheduled for the summer. This revelation comes as Walsh prepares to grace the National Stadium in Dublin this Saturday, exactly three years after his professional debut at the same iconic venue.

In an exclusive interview, Walsh shared, “We’ve just agreed to a fight for me in the middle of the summer. It’s a big show, and it’ll be for a belt. I’m hoping my dad can get the news this weekend that we have it over the line. There’ll be an announcement, hopefully next Wednesday.” This bout signifies a pivotal moment in Walsh’s career, as he aims to transcend journeyman opposition and engage in more meaningful contests.

Reflecting on his journey, Walsh stated, “It was actually three years ago this weekend that I made my debut in the National Stadium. So, it’s good to be back. This is my last fight against a journeyman, and then I’m ready to kick on. After this weekend, I’m happy enough to fight anyone at 135 or 140 around the country.” His upcoming fight against Jake Smith on the JB Promotions ‘No Turning Back’ bill is seen as the final stepping stone before his summer title challenge.

Walsh’s training regimen has been intense and focused. “Training has been going very well. I’ve been improving all the time,” he said. “I’m hoping to get some good rounds in this weekend and try different things that we’ve been working on in the gym. Just to explode more and fix the things I was doing badly in other fights — make sure I’m not doing them again.”

While Walsh remains tight-lipped about his potential opponent, rumors suggest that Tony McGylnn could be the name on the other end of the phone. However, Walsh’s immediate focus is on delivering a stellar performance this weekend, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying summer showdown.

As Walsh prepares to step into the ring this Saturday, the boxing world eagerly anticipates the official announcement of his summer title fight. This bout could very well be the catalyst that propels ‘Pretty Boy’ into the upper echelons of the lightweight division, marking a significant step up in his burgeoning career.
