The National Junior Championships held on March 7th, 2026, at the National Stadium, showcased the future stars of boxing. The event was a testament to the skill, determination, and spirit of young athletes from across the nation. The championships were divided into two categories: the National Boy & Girl 4 Championships and the National Boy & Girl Junior 1 Championships, each delivering a series of thrilling matches.

The day began with the quarter and semi-finals of the National Boy & Girl 4 Championships. The atmosphere was electric as young boxers stepped into the ring, their eyes filled with determination and dreams of victory. In the 42kg category, Cayden Joyce from Oughterard faced Michael Faulkner from Corpus Christi M, setting the tone for the day with a hard-fought battle. The 44kg category saw Danny O’Reilly from Fr Horgan secure a Red Win RSC2 against Callum Lawrence from Bay City, demonstrating the power and precision that would become a recurring theme throughout the day.

As the matches progressed, the intensity in the stadium grew. The 50kg bout between Tommy Kiely from Glen and Rhys Kinsella from Swords ended with Kinsella emerging victorious, his swift footwork and sharp jabs leaving a lasting impression. The 54kg category witnessed a closely contested match between Zac Creighton from Avona and Tommy Browne from Setanta L, with Browne edging out a 3/2 victory.

The National Boy & Girl Junior 1 Championships semi-finals took place in the evening, raising the stakes even higher. The 39kg bout between Padraig O’Reannchain from Nutgrove and Dinny O’Neill from St Francis saw O’Neill dominate with a 5/0 victory. The 42kg category featured a compelling match between William Delaney from Urlingford and Harry Reddington from Cherry Orchard, with Reddington securing a well-deserved win.

One of the standout performances of the evening came from Rylee Finn from St Nicholas in the 46kg category, who delivered a commanding 5/0 victory over Marcus Garrow from Canal. The 50kg category saw Lucie Prentice from Banbridge triumph over Zoey Howley from Swinford, her relentless pace and powerful punches earning her a place in the finals.

The championships were not just about the victories but also about the spirit of competition and the promise of a bright future for boxing. Each match was a display of skill, courage, and sportsmanship, reminding everyone present that the future of boxing is in capable hands. As the day drew to a close, the National Stadium echoed with the cheers of proud coaches, supportive families, and enthusiastic fans, all witnessing the birth of new boxing legends.
