In the high-stakes world of mixed martial arts, injuries are an unfortunate reality that can derail even the most promising careers. UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is currently navigating this challenging landscape after sustaining a serious eye injury during his title fight against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 in October. As Aspinall undergoes multiple eye surgeries and plans his return to the Octagon, former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has offered a word of caution.

Bisping, who knows all too well the difficulties of competing with an eye injury, has advised Aspinall against rushing back to the cage. The British veteran fought 11 fights in the UFC with vision in only one eye, a testament to his toughness but also a stark reminder of the risks involved. Aspinall, however, seems determined to face Gane again when he returns, aiming to avenge his first unsuccessful title defense.

Speaking openly about his recovery, Aspinall has revealed that he is set to undergo surgeries on both eyes by mid-January. The 32-year-old has been dealing with double vision and impaired eye movement since the incident, which has kept him sidelined for the past few months. Despite the setbacks, Aspinall remains focused on reclaiming his undisputed heavyweight title and has even set his sights on a potential showdown with Jon Jones, should the former champion decide to return to the UFC.

Joe Rogan, a longtime commentator and MMA enthusiast, has also weighed in on Aspinall’s situation. Rogan acknowledged the severity of the injury and the uncertainty surrounding Aspinall’s future in the sport. “The Tom Aspinall-Ciryl Gane thing was a disaster,” Rogan said on his podcast. “Unless you’re a complete psychopath like Michael Bisping, who fought 11 fights in the UFC blind in one eye, which is so crazy that he did that.”

As Aspinall continues his recovery, the MMA community watches closely, hoping for a successful return. The heavyweight division is filled with potential contenders, including Gane, Jones, and Francis Ngannou, who could be waiting in the wings. Aspinall’s journey back to the top promises to be a compelling narrative, one that highlights the resilience and determination of a true champion.
