In a display of sheer determination and resilience, Amanda Serrano overcame a severely swollen right eye to secure a unanimous decision victory against Reina Tellez, successfully defending her featherweight titles in a thrilling bout held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This victory not only showcased Serrano’s indomitable spirit but also solidified her status as a dominant force in the featherweight division.

The fight, which took place at the iconic Coliseo Roberto Clemente, was a testament to Serrano’s prowess and tenacity. Despite the swelling that threatened to impede her vision, Serrano’s corner managed to keep her eye from closing completely, allowing her to resume her high-volume offensive in the latter half of the match. This strategic pause and subsequent comeback highlighted Serrano’s ability to adapt and overcome adversity.

Serrano’s opponent, Reina Tellez, stepped into the ring with only 15 days’ notice, following the withdrawal of Serrano’s original challenger, Erika Cruz, due to an adverse drug test result. Tellez, with a record of 13-1-1, proved to be a formidable adversary, holding her ground against Serrano’s relentless attacks. In the fifth round, Serrano shifted her focus to Tellez’s body, but the challenger remained steadfast, fending off the champion’s advances.

This bout marked Serrano’s return to the featherweight division after her trilogy loss to Katie Taylor in July 2025. The Puerto Rican fighter, with an impressive record of 47-4-1 and 31 KOs, was eager to reclaim her dominance in the 126-pound division. Despite Tellez coming in overweight and thus not challenging for Serrano’s titles, the fight was a crucial step in Serrano’s journey to reassert her authority in the featherweight category.

The undercard of the event also featured notable matches, including a WBA lightweight world title fight between Stephanie Han and Holly Holm. Han emerged victorious after the fight was stopped in the seventh round due to a clash of heads, adding to the excitement of the evening.

Serrano’s victory is a reminder of her exceptional skill and unwavering determination. As she continues to navigate the challenges of the featherweight division, her performance against Tellez serves as a testament to her enduring legacy in the sport of boxing. Fans and analysts alike will be eagerly anticipating her next move, as she continues to shape the landscape of women’s boxing.
