Tszyu’s Resurgence: A Clash with Nurja on Easter Sunday

As the boxing world eagerly anticipates the upcoming Easter Sunday showdown, Australian sensation and former world champion Tim Tszyu is poised to make a significant impact in his resurgence. The 31-year-old, with a record of 26-3 and 18 KOs, is set to face the undefeated Italian challenger Denis Nurja, who boasts a perfect 20-0 record with 9 KOs. This pivotal bout will headline the PBC Championship Boxing event on Prime Video, scheduled for Sunday, April 5, at the WIN Entertainment Centre.

The event, kicking off at 11 a.m. AEST, promises an exciting lineup of fights, including a heavyweight bout between rugby star-turned-boxer Nelson Asofa Solomona and Jarrod Wallace. The Prime Video broadcast will feature a total of five fights, offering a thrilling night of boxing for all Prime members in the United States.

During the final press conference, Tszyu expressed his determination to reclaim the top spot in the boxing world. “This is the rise. I feel like I did fall apart, but I’m putting the wheels back in motion,” Tszyu stated. “I’m coming and I’m gunning straight back to that No. 1 spot, and whoever is in the way of that, they’re in danger.”

Tszyu’s confidence was palpable as he addressed the risks and challenges ahead. “I always put it all on the line, and I’m confident in myself,” he said. “We’re in this sport for a short amount of time, and you’ve got to make the most of every opportunity.” He also acknowledged his awareness of his opponents’ strategies, particularly the left hook, which he referred to as his “kryptonite.”

On the other side, Denis Nurja remained focused and respectful. “I’ve trained really hard. I have a lot of respect for Tim, but I’ve come here to win,” Nurja declared. “I don’t care what they say because I live in the present. The win would be a massive step in my career.”

The co-main event will feature a 12-round IBF 122-pound title eliminator between Australia’s Sam Goodman and Argentina’s Rodrigo Ruiz. Additionally, the card includes a bout between undefeated 2024 Australian Olympian Callum Peters and fellow unbeaten Delio Mouzinho in eight rounds of middleweight action. Rising Australian Olympian Paulo Aokuso will also battle veteran Thai contender Kittipong Jian Hao Ho in a 10-round light heavyweight affair.
