In the wake of Deontay Wilder’s split decision victory over Derek Chisora, Tyson Fury finds himself in a contemplative state, questioning his own future in the sport. The fight, which took place at the O2 Arena, saw both Wilder and Chisora hit the canvas, with the former ultimately edging past his opponent. This bout marked Chisora’s 50th and final professional fight, while Wilder, at 40, shows no signs of hanging up his gloves.

Fury, who has shared the ring with both Wilder and Chisora on three separate occasions, expressed his concerns about his upcoming return to the ring. Scheduled to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Fury admits that the layoff has him worried. “By the time the fight comes around on Saturday, I’ll have been out of the ring for 16 months,” Fury revealed. “At 37 years old, 16 months is a long time.”

The heavyweight champion went on to describe his reaction to the Wilder-Chisora fight, calling it “hard to watch” and “heartbreaking.” He noted the decline in both fighters’ performances, which left him pondering his own fate. “I’ve never seen two men slide as much as them two in my life,” Fury said. “And I’m thinking, ‘am I next?'”

Wilder, meanwhile, has set his sights on a potential showdown with Anthony Joshua, with whom he exchanged words post-fight. Fury, who briefly retired after successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, has also expressed interest in facing Joshua, provided he overcomes Makhmudov. “I’d like to fight him next for sure,” Fury stated. “If he’s available next, then we’ll do it next, providing I get through Arslanbek.”

As the heavyweight division continues to evolve, the potential matchups between Fury, Wilder, Joshua, and Usyk promise to keep fans on the edge of their seats. With each fighter eyeing the others, the stage is set for a series of blockbuster bouts that could define the future of heavyweight boxing.

Makhmudov, who overcame Dave Allen on points in Sheffield last October, enters the bout with Fury as a significant underdog. However, in the unpredictable world of heavyweight boxing, anything can happen. As Fury prepares to return to the ring, the boxing community will be watching closely, eager to see if the ‘Gypsy King’ can reclaim his throne or if the sands of time have finally caught up with him.
