In a thrilling display of grit and determination, Deontay Wilder secured a split decision victory over Derek Chisora at the iconic O2 Arena in London this past weekend. The bout, which stretched over twelve chaotic rounds, marked the 14th loss in Chisora’s career but served as a crucial win for Wilder, who is eager to reclaim his former glory in the heavyweight division.

The fight, held on April 4th, was a rollercoaster of emotions for both fighters and spectators alike. Wilder’s two decisive knockdowns ultimately swayed the judges’ scorecards in his favor, proving to be the defining moments of the match. This victory, his second by decision, brings Wilder’s record to an impressive 45 wins (43 by knockout), four losses, and one draw. Chisora, on the other hand, now stands at 36 wins (23 by knockout) and 14 losses.

Following the bout, Wilder expressed his desire to face off against former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. This potential matchup has sparked considerable interest and debate within the boxing community. Dmitry Kudryashov, a renowned Russian boxer, shared his thoughts on the matter, stating that a fight between Wilder and Usyk would have been a fascinating prospect a few years ago. However, he noted that Wilder’s signature power seems to have diminished over time.

Despite this, International Boxing Association (IBA) President Umar Kremlev remains optimistic about Wilder’s chances against Usyk. In a recent interview, Kremlev expressed his belief that if the fight were to take place, it would likely end in a stoppage victory for Wilder. This sentiment is echoed by former undisputed light welterweight world champion Konstantin Tszyu, who believes that if Wilder can regain his former knockout power, he could pose a significant threat to any opponent in the ring.

As the dust settles on Wilder’s victory over Chisora, the boxing world eagerly awaits the next chapter in the American’s career. With talks of a potential showdown with Usyk gaining traction, fans are left to ponder whether Wilder can recapture the form that once made him a feared force in the heavyweight division. One thing is certain: the road ahead promises to be filled with excitement, drama, and unforgettable moments in the squared circle.
