As the calendar year drew to a close, the world of mixed martial arts was treated to a spectacular evening of combat sports at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. The RIZIN Shiwasu event, held on December 31st, 2025, witnessed a dramatic shift in the lightweight division as Ilhom Nazimov dethroned Roberto Satoshi de Souza with a breathtaking knockout just 13 seconds into the first round.

The lightweight championship bout between Roberto Satoshi de Souza and Ilhom Nazimov was highly anticipated, promising to be a thrilling encounter. Both fighters brought impressive records and a high finishing rate into the cage, setting the stage for an explosive showdown. The fight lived up to its billing, delivering a memorable moment that will be etched in the annals of MMA history.

Roberto Satoshi de Souza, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the reigning RIZIN lightweight champion, entered the fight with a professional record of 20-3-0. His impressive 95% finishing rate underscored his dominance in the division. Despite a setback in 2023 against Patricky Freire, de Souza had rebounded strongly, securing five consecutive victories in 2025, including notable wins against Ki Won-bin and Yoshinori Horie.

On the other side of the cage stood Ilhom Nazimov, a formidable opponent with a record of 12-3-0 and a 75% finishing rate. Nazimov, ranked No. 31 in the lightweight division, had also experienced a loss in 2023 but had since regained his momentum with victories over Jaures Dea, Sora Yamamoto, and Suguru Nii. His determination to claim the lightweight title was palpable as he stepped into the Saitama Super Arena.

The fight itself was a testament to the unpredictable nature of MMA. In a stunning turn of events, Nazimov landed a decisive blow just 13 seconds into the first round, securing a knockout victory over the reigning champion. The swift and decisive nature of Nazimov’s victory sent shockwaves through the arena and the MMA community at large.

This victory not only marks a significant milestone in Nazimov’s career but also sets the stage for an exciting year ahead in the lightweight division. As the new RIZIN lightweight champion, Nazimov will undoubtedly face a slew of challengers eager to test their mettle against the newly crowned king.

The RIZIN Shiwasu event served as a reminder of the thrilling and unpredictable nature of mixed martial arts. With champions being crowned and new stars emerging, the future of the sport looks brighter than ever. As we step into the new year, the anticipation for what lies ahead in the world of MMA continues to build, promising more unforgettable moments and spectacular finishes.
