As the calendar flipped to 2025, Hamzah Sheeraz carried the momentum of three stellar victories from the previous year, positioning himself as a formidable force in the middleweight division. However, a strategic shift to super middleweight has set the stage for what promises to be a monumental year ahead. With the backing of former super middleweight champion George Groves, Sheeraz is tipped to make significant waves in 2026.

Sheeraz, boasting an impressive record of 22-0-1 with 18 knockouts, faced off against Carlos Adames on February 22, 2025. The bout, widely anticipated to crown Sheeraz as the WBC middleweight champion, ended in a split draw. Despite the judges’ scorecards reading 115-114 for Sheeraz, 118-110 for Adames, and 114-114, many spectators felt Sheeraz had fallen short. This controversial outcome prompted Sheeraz to announce his move to the super middleweight division.

In his super middleweight debut, Sheeraz showcased his dominance against Edgar Berlanga at the iconic Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens. The British fighter delivered a masterclass performance, scoring two knockdowns before securing a stoppage in the fifth round. This victory has catapulted Sheeraz into the spotlight, with the WBO recently mandating a title bout against Diego Pacheco for their vacant super middleweight belt.

George Groves, a seasoned veteran of the sport, has expressed his confidence in Sheeraz’s potential. “Hamzah Sheeraz, now campaigning at super middleweight with the belts scattering, I believe he’s got a great shot to win one,” Groves remarked. “He had a great win against Edgar Berlanga. If that fight was happening this year, that might have been happening for a vacant world title.”

Groves acknowledged Sheeraz’s less-than-stellar performance against Adames but remains optimistic about his future. “He had a fight with Adames but he didn’t really perform. And then we were like, okay, has he not performed or are we about to find his level? Boxing’s brutal like that. Boxing fans are quick to stick the knife in. I think maybe he was a bit tight with the weight now. But at middleweight, I’d like to see him with a shot.”

The question now is, who should Sheeraz face next? Is Pacheco the right opponent for the Queensberry Promotions fighter? As the boxing world eagerly awaits the answer, one thing is certain: Hamzah Sheeraz is a name to watch in 2026.
